Hello Members,
It has been a little while since the last update. That is due to the fact that not much has been happening, or not that I have been told about. Whilst I am quite good at making very little into a whole lot I can't do much with nothing. Please keep me informed of ANY news, big or small.
With age group world titles coming soon over a variety of distances we again are represented. Young gun Caleb McInnnes will represent his country over the sprint distance. The always consistent DazzaH will again line up in the Olympic distance race. Hopefully by this stage evergreen Tony Ruddick has also been promoted to the side after being initially being named first emergency. I suspect due to the fact that these guys often have to race in far away places that we overlook their achievements. These guys are pursuing the honour of representing their country. They are amongst the best age groupers in Australia and probably the world. Congratulations guys you have made us very proud. Good luck.
On a similar theme, the long course world championship team will be announced on Tuesday. Brad Campbell, has already booked his place on the plane (literally) by winning every qualifying race he entered. Club super sponsor Matt Currie, and the young gun Shano Laszczyk will be waiting by the phone. Any one who runs on Thursday nights will have seen how good these guys are. They have raised the standard. Good luck guys, we look forward to following three more Aussie representatives.
The biggest news at the moment is our upcoming presentation night. This is taking place on Saturday 30th May and by now we should all have our invitations. Any one that has not received their invite just think for a moment why haven't you...... Only joking, please let me know and we will rectify this problem. All members have received written invitations but that by no means limits who may attend. Any one who would like to attend is more than welcome. Please see Bec for any details. The night promises to be huge with all the usual awards, DVD shows and the world famous D.J. It will be a great time to let the hair down and reflect on what we have all achieved this season. So please put your party hats on and come along and enjoy. For ticket purchases please see Bec or any other committee member. Please book early so we can confirm numbers. It will be a great event so please help make it a fantastic night.
The next biggest event on the triathlon calendar is the Knox Duathlon on the 26th July. This is the one day we ask our members to give of their time and effort. This is our one fundraiser for the year and obviously it requires alot of work. Lets share the load and all get in and do our bit. Some members will be aware that I can be very persistent, and annoying, when seeking volunteers. Lets save me the effort and yourselves the headaches and volunteer early. Those who volunteer first obviously will get first choice of duties. Those who hang back may be required to clean the toilets. Whilst I nicely refer to everyone as volunteers, the reality is we as a club expect all our members to be involved over this weekend. If you wish to race, then find us a suitable body to do your club service. Please lets prevent my whining and volunteer now, yes now... I will wait whilst you email me back.......right now.
The good news with working soooooooo hard at the duathlon, is that the Saturday following all volunteers will be rewarded with a FREE coffee and a cake at the Chosen Bean Cafe at Mountain Gate. More details will follow, but the idea is to fit in with everyone's Saturday morning ride, or the shopping . The offer will extend between approx 10.30 and 11.30 am. This will be a great chance for the club to say Thankyou but also for everyone to catch up for a chat and a latte.
Finally, I would just like to encourage all members to have a look at our newlook website. It is currently being improved even further so it will be updated regularly. The updates, presidents reports, members news and event details can all be found there. If anyone has any photos of races or social occasions that they would like to share could the please forward these to DazzaP at darrenpocock@optusnet.com.au .
Please remember to keep me informed of any news, particularly in the quieter winter months. If necessary I will make things up, and you may just be the target, so ensure I have enough truthful things to tell people.
Congratulations to all on a great season. Relax, refresh and then lets get ready to do it all again soon.
See you all at presentation night.
